Play The Venue

Privacy Policy

Last updated: this is a starting draft seeded when this page was created -- edit it from the admin panel, and have it checked by a solicitor before relying on it, particularly for UK GDPR/PECR compliance.

1. What this covers

This policy explains what personal data Play The Venue collects, why, and how it's used -- for hosts, players, and visitors to our marketing pages alike.

2. Information we collect

Host accounts: name, email address, and billing details handled directly by our payment provider, Stripe (we don't store your card details ourselves). Players: a display name you choose when joining a session, and -- only if you choose to register -- an email and password. Guest players who don't register are identified only by a temporary, per-session token stored in a cookie on your own device.

3. Cookies

We use a small number of first-party cookies. Some are strictly necessary -- for example, keeping you logged in, or remembering which player you are within a session you've joined -- and are set automatically since the site can't function without them. Others are for first-party analytics (understanding which pages are visited and roughly how, using an anonymous, randomly generated identifier -- never your IP address, and never linked to your account) and are only set once you've given consent through the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time; see our cookie notice on first visit.

4. How we use information

To run the game sessions you host or join, to operate and improve the service, to process payments, and to respond when you contact support.

5. Sharing

We share data with service providers who help us run the platform -- for example Stripe for payments -- and don't sell personal data to third parties.

6. Retention

We keep account data for as long as your account is active, and session/game data for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose it was collected for.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. Get in touch via our Support page.
